I don't see the distinction Patrick is trying to make. Personally, I would
use
{pIm} if I wanted a different kind of phaser - i.e. a Type 3 vs. the smaller
Type 1 (or is it the other way 'round?), or a Bajoran phaser vs. a Starfleet
phaser - not merely another one of the same kind.
