RE: Klingon Grammer

Welcome to the list. My name is pagh, and I am the current Beginners'
Grammarian for the list. Whenever you have a post you want help with, mark
it for my attention with a KLBC in the subject line.

The one and only place to find out about the basics of Klingon grammar (and
most of the advanced stuff as well) is the book _The Klingon Dictionary_, by
Marc Okrand. If you want to learn Klingon, that is where you should go.

I would also strongly advise against using any kind of "translator" while
learning Klingon, or any other language for that matter. If you let the
translator do all the work, you won't ever learn to do it for yourself. In
addition, most language translators are not very good, producing
translations that are usually rather strange and often incorrect. I'm not
saying that you shouldn't use computer based tools to help you learn the
language - I use several myself - but the tools should help the learning
process, not get in the way.

A basic Klingon sentence is pretty simple: object - verb - subject. Here are
some examples:

puq qIp yaS - The officer hit the child. yaS - officer; qIp - hit; puq -
child
paq tlhap puq - The child took the book. tlhap - take; paq - book
pum paq - The book fell. pum - fall
