I thought Wedge was the one who survived through all three movies. Luke's
friend Biggs from Tatooine died attacking the Death Star in "Star Wars," and
Dak dies while attacking the Imperial Walkers in "The Empire Strikes Back,"
but Wedge lives all the way to the end of "Return of the Jedi." In fact, I
believe that the only time you ever see Wedge without his helmet on is in the
very very last scene of "Return of the Jedi," where the characters are all
posing in the Ewok village.
So, no, I don't think this is where the word comes from, although it's an
interesting idea.
