Perhaps Okrand was thinking of 'uD as a small, precise cutting laser
appropriate for surgery while 'uD'a' (with the -'a' augmentative) was
something *much* larger and nastier. A weapon, perhaps? Maybe even
ship-mounted? I guess we'll have to go ask Maltz.
