Unfortunately, this is the point I tried to make elsewhere: we don't know
if, when referring to a plural consisting of both speech-capable and non, if
we use <bIH> or <chaH>.

Let's understand something here, because I am REALLY, REALLY TIRED of this
thread...

I intend NO dishonour to our "speaking" sources, okay? (especially since I
was part of the cause for nughI'; I'd be dishonouring myself, qar'a'?)

When MOST people reffer to "source" material of something researched, they
are referring to books, tapes, articles, etc. At least, *I* do. When a
beginner asks me "what are the sources of the Klingon Language?" I
immediate think "What are materials they can go buy, and use?" Let's face
it: Okrand himself doesn't give us a whole lot... and most of THAT (until
recently) has been via HolQeD.

Now, you might argue that TECHNICALLY, since he was involved with ALL the
"source" materials, that therefore, he is the ONLY source... and therefore,
all the sources can "speak", right?

Wrong.

Just because someone WROTE a particular source material for soemthign,
doesn't mean that that source can speak. My Encyclopedia is a very valid
source material, and an excellent reference... but it doesn't speak. Yet
someone wrote it, didn't they?

What about all the other books on my shelf? If they happen to have been
written by one person, does that mean THEY are now capable of speech? Heck NO!

You are confusing the fact that Okrand is the ONLY person who can create new
words/grammar with the source materials with which he has provided us: the
Dictionary, the audio tape, the CD, The Klingon Way, the various Skybox
cards, the numerous articles in HolQeD, the additional words list on the KLI
machine... I'm sure I missed a few.

Therein lies my point... the SOURCES of the Klingon Language which this
person wanted--things they could access and open up and READ, LISTEN TO,
LOOK AT... not a single one of those can speak. Yes, they ALL stem from
Okrand... but that doesn't transfer to them "speech-capbable status". And
quite honestly, (and this is no slam against Okrand... I personally PREFER
it this way, because then you have something DOCUMENTED to go back to...)
the MAJOURITY of the information Dr. Okrand has been gracious enough to give
us ahs been DOCUMENTED in a "source".

I really don't think I'm the confused one here.
