To all:

I attended the Starlog Convention here in San Francisco, CA this
past weekend. One of the speakers at Sunday's session was Walter
Koenig (Checkov on TOS and Bester on Babylon 5). When he came onstage,
he said that he had some very sad news to deliver. Mark Lenard (Sarek,
Spock's father) died this past Friday afternoon. He had been suffering
from cancer. He was 72. He needed surgery. To feed him, they placed
tubes into his stomach. Infection developed very quickly. Pneumonia
soon followed.

Walter was unsure of where condolences should be sent. He
suggested sending them to Paramount Studios. Leonard Nimoy was
scheduled to appear at this convention. He cancelled at the last
minute. I have a very strong feeling that this is the reason.

I had known that Mark was in poor health since early this past
summer. He was scheduled to appear at a Trek convention on the East
Coast and backed out due to ill health.
