"Klingon" as a name in early Federation Standard?

  Safire's Sunday column ... mentioned "jerk."  I really like 
  this joke, which won a Life Savers monthly joke contest.  It's 
  from the Columbia University Jester, vol. C, no. 8, May 1942, 
  pg. 6, col. 1: 

      "She walks with a decided jerk."
      "Yes, isn't he?"
             --Gerald Klingon '42
               630 Hartley Hall

       This "Klingon" name appeared frequently in the Jester.  
  Could that special someone on this list tell us where Klingons 
  come from?  Is it Columbia University?
