"Is this proper" for what? I can translate it two ways:
as a question "does it hurt?" or as a noun "great pain".
And it's pronounced exactly as it is spelled. No, I'm not being
facetious. TKD section 1 describes pronunciation, and there's a
good description with audio samples on the KLI web site at the

I guess that double <''> in the middle is worth asking about; in
fact, there was a discussion about pronouncing paired stops here
a while ago. Some of us pronounce them with a slight voicing in
between them, others simply prolong a pause between them. You'd
better join us at qep'a' wejDIch and listen for yourself!
