Yesterday's email bounces from UTU.FI
Dear Recipients,
I am sending this to those circa 740 addresses that have
received email delivery error report from our system (DOMAIN
UTU.FI) during a 16 hour system problem we experienced in between
24-Jun-96 1400 GMT, and 25-Jun-96 1000 GMT. (Starting in the
afternoon about 4 PM local time by a large-scale 3 second
electricity outage (whole city) with non-clean reconnect, and
continuing well into the next office day, while faulted hardware
was repaired, and servers rebooted. -- UPS systems are in use,
but a couple of critical systems were not at UPS electricity..)
Naturally it happened, when our email system specialists had gone
away for a couple of days, and nobody else knew any ways to detect,
and minimize problems, when our technical people arrived to reboot
the servers. (Within minutes of the electricity break!)
That crash caused our main email server to loose its copy of user
account database, and when it could not get replacement from the
crashed out master system, it kept telling to email senders, that
our users do not exist :-(
Apologies to people, especially list-owners, our people do
exist, our email server just did not know it for a while.

PS: In case this comes to some LIST, the support system of that
list has not been upgraded to direct error messages to separate
address -- to some <owner-LIST@HOST> for example.
PS2: The address source for this posting is our system mailer log
from during the error interval, and this is the only posting
I will send to you about this incidence.
