It's also a type 9 verb suffix. TKD addendum section 4.2.9, p 175.
\ vaj does mean warrior but I have never seen used as such, everyone uses SuvwI'.
I've seen both. SuvwI' is the more common term, and to some extent would
reduce the potential confusion of {vaj}.
