I believe that {-Daq} cannot be used as part of a noun phrase (at least, I
don't think it has been used that way so far). It functions with the sentence
as a whole.

I don't think it's "hindsight-only." It's a pretty obvious thing to work out.
However, I don't think they just use {qIv}. If that were the case, Okrand
would have written "knee, elbow" in the definition (which would've been kinda
fun). Of course, since we don't know what the word for "elbow" is, it could
be anything (heh . . . 'I' cha'DIch . . .).
