I always interpreted "pIp" as "spine" in the sense of the body-part, the
body part that consists of small bones that go up your back (and possibly
Klingon backs as well), and not in the sense of sharp spike. But I have no
evidence for that, so don't trust it too much.
Those one-word glosses are such a chore.
