Re: Nouns as Verbs

as a new member of the KLI, (the only member in Jamaica, so there isn't
much conversation going on) my biggest problem, (that is coming in cold
never hearing the language save on the few episodes of star trek we get
here, what is causing me the greatest difficulty, (and I note I am not
alone) is that the construction of the langauge is totally different
from English. I have tried to make simple sentences, but my problem is
not selecting the word that means 'difficult' and putting it into a
sentence with the word that means 'language', but in trying to mentally
gain the construct of how a tlhIngan would conceptualize a difficult
language.
In short, one can not translate tlhIngan-Hol. One must mentally 'think'
like a tlhIngan to formulate how they would make a statement, then make
it in their 'voice'.
Until I get a grip on how the tlhIngan thinks, I'm not going much
farther than nuqneH and Qapla'.
And may attend the qep'a' and impersonate a deaf person, so i won't be
embarrassed.
