Is there a good way to express the idea of a hint or clue? For example, if I wanted to say "Don't tell me the whole answer, but give me a hint", how would I express that?

I was thinking of submitting that as a vocabulary request, but I'm wondering if, as is often the case, there's an existing solution that I'm just not thinking of.
