I’m doing graphic design work to encourage participation in the 2020 census. Many of my projects are translated into anywhere between 5 and 22 languages, and I thought it might be fun to slip Klingon into the mix. Unsurprisingly, the text includes phrases such as “Congressional representation” and “immigration status” that probably aren’t at the heart of the Klingon culture. Does this seem like something that could be successfully translated? Automated translators have been so wildly off the mark that I’m left uncertain if there’s hope.
