I’m a beginner in learning Klingon and have barely any abilty to speak it, though I have some knowledge of other conlangs. My question is about Klingons current romanisation system. I understand it’s history and original purpose, but I would like to ask if their are any other ones a learner like me could use. As of now I use a makeshift romanisation I made when learning how to pronounce Klingon. It’s not the best but I would like to share it in an order corresponding with the current romanisation’s order:
Note: those in bracets I got from the wikipedia page on phonology which talked about dialectal differences so I included support for those differences
A few people with similar skills levels to you have proposed changing the system (one guy even wrote a whole book that he published and sent out to KLI members to get their approval) but, since the vast majority of published Klingon is written using TKDs romanization system, most of them have discarded their own systems as they only made it more difficult to learn to communicate with other Klingon speakers. They found that it slowed down their reading comprehension, which is important since the majority of Klingon communication is still written. None of these other systems have caught on with the community.
