Re: [Tlhingan-hol] Klingon Word of the Day: poS

poS meaning "left side" is a noun, so ghIt poS means either "open flat hand"
or "the flat hand's left side". "The hand of the left side" would be poS
ghIt.

Meanwhile I'm not sure what it would mean to a Klingon to have an "open"
hand. I struggled with this recently creating exercises for the verb poS in
the online course. All of these things can be "open, opened" in English.
Which can be in Klingon?

door, container, mouth, eye, gift, book, certain weapons, room, hand, fire,
water, countryside, restaurant, bar, task, period of time, meeting, mind,
opportunity.

I'm certain of the above list only up to eye. After that, the English
application of open becomes more and more general or metaphorical. I'd start
to question others' use at hand, and would urge you to seek alternate
wording for anything after that. qul qanbe'lu'bogh, jabrup Qe', and I'm not
actually sure what an open bar is in English. Does it mean you serve
yourself? Or that the drinks are free?

Okay, the beginner is gonna go waaay out on a limb here:

If {poS} can mean both "be open" and "left side" then it might make sense
for Klingons to extend an open, left hand, his {ghIt poS}, so that he can
still retain a grip on a weapon if needed.
