I've always told people that everybody has at least one thing that they really love. It could be anything: baking cakes, playing football, poker, hypnotising
 people for fun, singing, playing a musical instrument ... or it could be something serious and worthwhile such as learning another language. Any other language.<br><br>It is very difficult for monoglots to understand what would motivate anyone to learn another language, at all; let alone to want to learn any language for fun. It's like mathophobics wondering why geeks such as I get excited over the latest news article about prime numbers, or non-science geeks pondering why I get excited to learn about a new transuranic element which has been added to the Periodic Table.<br><br>If I have learned one thing, it is this: you cannot argue against willing ignorance. You can only transcend the gaps in your own knowledge through continued study, and keep your sharp blades from rusting. What other people do is irrelevant, as long as they realise that their judgment of you is also irrelevant. All you can do is to say that you will never be such a person yourself,

If they interest us and bring us smiles, that is enough. And it’s okay for people to do those other things, too. Hearing that ignorant masses apparently think Klingon isn’t a “real” language and that it’s just a geeky thing with a few Star Trek-centric things you can say with it, I feel like telling you stuff about my non-Star Trek-centric life, in the Warrior’s tongue, for no other reason than to prove the point that the criticism is actually ignorant.<br>

No, I won’t claim that it’s not geeky. I’m merely arguing with the assertion that you can’t speak in Klingon on a variety of topics. I also won’t promise that I’ll be universally understood. Likely, some people here will understand me easily, while some may argue with my word choices or grammatical constructions. Some of them will likely be right, but that misses the point.<br>
