Is this the source for the {yo'SeH yaHnIv} that's listed on
/tlh/newwords.html ?
It's listed there as:
(n) Operations Command [Apparently this is a proper noun.] [HolQeD v8n4p11]
Now I wonder whether the bit from ST5 should be transcribed as {HoD,
yo'SeH yaHnIvvo' potlh De' wIHevtaH}; whether these are two separate
phrases; or whether the phrase on newwords.html should become {yo'
SeHyaH nIv}.
Does someone have HolQeD v8n4p11 handy to confirm how it's spelled there?
{yo'SeH yaHnIv} always looked odd to me by how Klingon words are
formed; {yo' SeHyaH nIv} makes a lot more sense to me, being based on
{yo'} "fleet", {SeHyaH}, and {nIv} "be superior".
{SeHyaH} is not immediately transparent, but seems to be related to
{SeH} "control, check" (cf. the compound words {lolSeHcha}
"attitude-control thrusters" and {SeHlaw} "control panel") and {yaH}
"duty station, station" (cf. the compound word {ropyaH} "sickbay,
infirmary, hospital" from {rop} "disease").
{yo' SeH yaH nIv} would also work, if {SeH} were a noun: superior
fleet control station, or something like that.
Has {SeHyaH} been used anywhere else? (If only to confirm the spelling
as one word.)
Cheers,
Philip
