mishandling of a weapon, such as getting the trigger twisted while it was
knocked against the ground in a struggle could prevent it from firing.
But I decided that crafty Mossam was more interesting than lucky Mossam,
and had her pull out the power pack "clip" instead. leaving the
damage to the weapon to be discovered as qImyal tries to jam the charge
back in.<br><br>
[311] I researched Star Trek canon, looking for information on the blast
radius of an energy weapon on overload. It's suggested that a disruptor
can be set to overload, and I've seen sites claiming a 37 metre and 50
metre blast radius for the effect. Kirk thought it would take out a whole
deck of the Enterprise, but we've seen them used as a grenade, where the
effect is less than the distance a man can throw it. Final conclusion: a
disruptor on overload does just as much damage as the story requires.
Perhaps it depends on the charge remaining on the weapon, or how
vigourously you shake it after it starts whining. </body>
