*Qum, not Qom.

On Fri, Oct 28, 2011 at 8:48 AM, Noah Bogart <<a href="mailto:[email protected]";>[email protected]> wrote:

Well, page 159 of KGT talks about Qom (communicate) and how in the past
there might have been a noun form (communication), so the idea that a
meaning has fallen so out of usage as to be nearly forgotten isn't
completely irrelevant. I think it's more that we just don't have enough
canon literature to compare/look to.

Noah

On Fri, Oct 28, 2011 at 5:12 AM, Lieven Litaer <<a href="mailto:[email protected]"; target="_blank">[email protected]> wrote:
In fact we do know a nice counter example: The German word "Mädchen"
(girl, be'Hom) does contain a diminutive suffix but the base word Maid
or Magd is virtually non-existing nowadays and the etymology isn't
immediately transparent to most users.
Okay, thanks for this, BUT:

a) I was talking about Klingon,
b) even though most people might not know where "Mädchen" comes from, the word "Magd" still does exist (although seldomly used.)

Im am sure we will find hundereds of examples like this in english or german. Kanin-chen, Eichhörn-chen, Ku-chen...

;-)
