Perhaps that's because {cha} here may be the same {cha} as the inherently 
plural form of {peng} "torpedo". For those who haven't read that article in 
HolQeD (11:2), Maltz doesn't know, but said to MO that the question was 
"interesting". I reckon it's credible; it doesn't take too big a semantic 
leap to get from "torpedo" to "rocket" to "thruster".
