RE: Help with bible verse

Heather Myers ([email protected]) [KLI Member] [Hol ghojwI']

The KLI's Klingon Bible Translation Project is currently on hiatus. I'm
not certain who is/was in charge of it, but someone here must know.
(Lawrence? Seqram?) I don't know if they ever translated this verse.

With the help of a Christian friend of mine and some digging with
pojwI', I've cobbled this together. Folks, please take a look at this
and improve it:

qo' muSHa'qu'mo' Qun'a'

boghpu'bogh neH puqloDDaj nob,

Qaw'be'lu'meH voqbogh Hoch.

reH yIn.

Back-translation:

Because the great god loved the world very much
He gave his only son who was born
In order that everyone who had faith in him would not be destroyed.
They will live forever.

Original text:

For god loved the world so much that he gave his only begotten Son in
order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but
have everlasting life.

Translating the Bible is not something I would take on by choice, if
only because of the many interpretations people have of its contents.
Karen, I hope the kind folks on this list will jump in here and help to
improve this to the point where it can be useful for you.

Where did you get your Klingon font? The KLI has its official font for
sale on its merchant page (http://kli.org/stuff/Merchant.html). Also,
pojwI', a Klingon word processor, can show you what any Klingon passage
should look like in pIqaD.

Subject: Help with bible verse

I am hoping you all can help. My husband and I print the verse John 3:16
(For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that
whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life)
in
many languages on t-shirts. We are currently working on a Klingon and
English shirt. I have the symbols of the language, now would like to
print
the pronounced text. Samples I have found on the web are different.

"toH qo' muSHa'pu'qu'mo' joH'a',
wa' puqloDDaj nobpu' ghaH 'ej ghaHbaq Harchugh vay', vaj
not Hegh ghaH, 'ach yIn jub ghajbeh ghaH."

"u" muSHa' qu'mo' Qun'a', boghpu'bogh wa' neH puqlodaj nob. TaHHa'be'meH
ghaH wuvtaHbogh Hoch ghot, 'ach yIn jub SuqmeH, nob.

Which one should I use? Ps. These shirts will be free for those who ask
and
send their size and mailing address.
