Disclaimer: This highlight attempts to touch only on one aspect of Klingon
grammar and is not an exhaustive approach to the grammar. Posts take place
most days of the week, but not on the weekends, particularly not Shabbat.
Unlike English, which distinguishes between "in" and "into" and between "on"
and "onto," Klingon has only the noun suffix type 5 {-Daq} to convey both
concepts.
juHDaq qet loD = The man runs at the house
OR
The man runs to the house
(juH = house; -Daq = at, to, towards, in, into, onto; qet = runs; loD = man,
male)
Some verbs indicate whether "into" or "onto" works better.
HIvje'Daq HIq qang jabwI' = The waiter/waitress pours the ale into the goblet
(HIvje' = goblet, cup, glass; HIq = ale, wine, beer, liquor; qang = pours
into; jabwI' =
server)
qaghDaq ghevI' lIch jabwI' = The server pours the sauce onto the Ghak
(qagh = serpent worm served alive as food; ghevI' = sauce for Ghak; lIch =
pours onto)
Following a list of verbs of motion, defined by MO, {-Daq} is optional.
juHDaq ghoS vIghro' = The *cat-like animal goes toward/to/into the house.
(ghoS = goes, proceeds along a course; vIghro' = Klingon cat-like animal)
In this sentence, {-Daq} may be left out without changing the meaning.
