The Klingon "compass" is oriented (no pun intended) toward the rising sun.
Klingons (on Qo'noS, at least) start the day at sunrise.
Mayhaps the Trefoil is in fact the image of the sun rising behind a
"compass rose", indicating the rise of Klingon rule in "all directions"?
