DS9: "Shadows and Symbols"
For those interested, here is the "Klingon" that Worf recited in this week's
DS9 episode, "Shadows and Symbols." It looks as if the Paramount writers used
TKD to look up some words and suffixes in an attempt to "translate" the
lines. As usual, only the writers have any clue what this is supposed to mean
since all we have is this phonetic spelling (presumably copied from the
script) and Dorn's own unique delivery.
Here are the Closed Captions as they appeared, screen by screen:
(On the Rotarran, at the beginning of the mission to get Jadzia's spirit into
Sto-Vo-Kor)
JADZIA DAX VOND SHOO-VWEE-DUN
MAHH-KEKH HUH-KOO-VAHM
JEH YIN-MOJ MAH-MUKH.
STO-VO-KOR PAH-DAHKH-TIN BAHT-LEH
EL-EEGH-CHA YAY-MOJ.
Martok: "We shed our blood to prove we are not frightened of death."
Worf slits his palm and presses it against a box (?) with two candles in
front of it. [Jadzia's coffin? Her ashes?]
YUWEE-MODGE.
BAT-LEH-MODGE.
YAY-DODGE.
(End of mission) Worf closes his eyes and recites:
LOHM-ICT-LIHJ...
POSH-MACCH-LODGE
STO-VO-KOR...
JADZIA DAX...
PAY-LODGE PAY-DOCK-LIH DUN.
SHOO-VWEE-VAHM BAHT-LEH PAY-LODGE.
PAY-LODGE POH-HOKH-VAHD
STO-VO-KOR.
The annoying thing is that some of this actually makes sense (SuvwI' Dun,
'Iwmaj, batlhmaj, poSmoH loj[mIt?], SuvwI'vam, etc.). You know, sometimes I
wish the writers would just make it all up without TKD if they're not going
to bother to get it right!
