Give is not a double-object verb. The subject in your example is "I",
the verb is "give", the object is "the book" and then the left-over
"him" is not an object, but an adject (if that's the correct English
term; it's "meewerkend voorwerp" in Dutch and I believe adject in
Latin).
In language with casus (like German, Latin, etc) this is often a noun
in casus dativus. Wasn't there a "to"-suffix? (I don't have me TKD
handy and am not at all fluent in all the -fixes myself yet.)
