I've tried to stay out of (and mostly ignore) this discussion for the most part,
but as someone who regularly speaks at conventions and has to deal with people
running up to me and screaming NOOKNICK more often that I want to admit, I have
had to develop a philosophy of sorts. If the pronunciation is very bad and I'm
in a sour or surly mood I respond with a terse "SoHvo' vay' vIneHlaHbe'," scowl,
and return to whatever I was doing before the interuption. If I'm in a better
mood I simply try to emulate your typical Klingon ambassador, stoically enduring
the pain, nodding pleasantly.

As you say, YMMV.
