RE: parmaq (par'mach) - oh, it *IS* canon, eh?

   
   All Dr. Okrand's doing is "covering Paramount's ass". Just
   because a Paramount writer throwing pencils at the roof thought of a
   new Klingon word, doesn't mean it's canon. NOW it's canon because Mr.
   Okrand said so.

Someday the Klingon language community will grow up and drop this childish
hostility toward Paramount's scriptwriters.  I doubt there is anyone here
capable of what they do.  I certainly couldn't, and *I* have a degree in
theater (including courses in scriptwriting).

A hostility toward Paramount is not necessarily childish.  They give many reasons
for that hostility.  My personal complaints may be shared by some others on this
list.  The first is that they never seem to learn from their mistakes.  They asked Okrand
for the language then they ignore what they paid for after fandom has accepted it.
They have virtually no consistency in anything they do including the language hence
Okrand cleaning up after them.  I really don't believe it takes all that much effort to
do it right, they have plenty of tlhIngan Hol resources available to them, they are just a
little to uppity to use them.  As for other inconsistencies; the Voyager episodes show
dear Captain Lameway running across the *same* bad-hair-day alien ship over and
over again despite the fact that the Voyager is much much faster and attempting to take
the fastest route back to Federation space.  I can only conclude that Lameway has 
determined the best course to be a tight outward spiral while their arch-enemy travels in
a straight line.

What's worse, the latest multi-million dollar movie's potentially best scene shows the Borg
walking around outside the ship with their flesh exposed to hard vacuum.

Am I being to picky?  I obviously don't think so.  After 30 years at this one would think
that they would expect a more sophisticated audience.  Sure I'm an engineer and scientist
so a lot of the really obvious technical flaws are glaring at me but I *know* I'm not the only
one disappointed.  They do great special effects but their attention to detail in the story line
is lacking and their technical review seems to be non-existent.  Their martial arts, in which
I have a special interest, is...well, does David Carradine bring anything to mind?
