I don't think my name made it to the name list, but then I rarely use it much
any more.
I selected Angghal (or 'angghal, if you prefer) at the very beginning of the
KLI. Part of this was because the first Klingon fans I was dealing with were
KAG members who very eagerly followed John Ford's novel _The_Final_Reflection.
In that novel we're told that the first sound of a name indicates one's
profession, that all those K- names we met in Star Trek were a function of the
Klingons being in the Navy. Marine officers begin their names with M, and
scientists and scholars are supposed to start with A. So, I started with A.
I have always liked the sound of a velar nasal (and hey, if you admit it to
yourself, you'll see you do too) and so I was up to Ang.
I've also liked the the voiced velar fricative gh, ever since my undergraduate
class in international phonetics. That was almost twenty years ago, and I still
have a very old dog that I got that semester and whom I named Ghang. The dog
went deaf earlier this year, but prior to that she was good at recognizing
Klingon sounds! Anyway, that brings me up to Anggh.
I'm not sure where the rest of the name came from. I wanted two syllables, if
nothing else, just to break up the ng-gh cluster, which didn't look acceptable
in Klingon anyway (do we have any CVCC single syllables?). So, I ended up with
Angghal.
Of course, a couple years later I went looking for some meaning in there and
found that 'ang means to "show, or reveal." And I am, after all, Schoen.
