We have a "conventional" way to order phrases when using a verb of saying,
and it's appropriate to suggest that order to beginners, but I think
labeling it as "better" and labeling the other permitted order as "weird"
is excessively restrictive.

Your examples are good, however, and show how ambiguity can be avoided by a
suitable choice of phrasing.
