HAMLET status report

Since the last issue of HolQeD went out, and since I posted an
announcement about Hamlet to the net, the advance sales of the limited
first edition (1000 copies) of Hamlet have been encouraging.
Unfortunately, it has not been enough. In less than a month's time I
hope to take the completed manuscript to the Book Manufacturers. At that
time they will require, at a minimum, half of the total cost upfront.
And we don't have it yet. And while I'm prepared to use my own funds if
necessary, to bridge the gap so we can go to press, I'm simply not in a
position to manage that large of bridge.
So, again, let me appeal to both the memership of the KLI and the
membership of this mailing list. Your tax deductible donations are
desperately needed.
Donations of $100 will earn you a free copy of the limited first edition.
Donations of $500 will get you a copy of the deluxe first edition which
is limited to only 26 individualized copies.
More importantly, your help now will allow us to publish Hamlet, lovingly
restored to the original Klingon. Obviously nothing like this has ever
been attempted before, and this is your chance to participate, to help it
come to pass. A lot of organizations have goals and dreams, and all too
often the membership falsely believes that they are achieved by the work
of only a handful. That's simply not true. While you may not have been
directly involved with translating or editing, our Hamlet will not see
publication without your support. Help us now.
And finally, think about what this will do for the Klingon language
movement. The day after I send the manuscript off to the Book
Manufacturers I will be issuing a press release. The intent is to treat
this like any other book and try and take it on the talk show circuit.
Personally, I'm shooting for an appearance on the David Letterman show,
but I'll settle for Regis & Kathie Lee. My point is that all of this
will put Klingon in the public eye. It will make people pause and take
notice of what we're doing. All of which I think is a good thing. But,
it can only happen *IF* we get sufficient funds together in the next few
weeks to proceed with publication. Please, I know it's a rough time, and
few of us have a lot of disposable income, but skip that extra night out,
visit your local library instead of buying that new book, and send your
money to us. I don't think you'll have any regrets, and I know you won't
be disappointed.
