Re: Question from STrek-l
Sorry! In my post on colors, I left out a sentence that was the whole point of
a paragraph.
I said:
:
:
: Captain Krankor says:
: [...]
: : As for "gray", that is a much more glaring omission.
:
: Not necessarily. Klingon, if I'm remembering correctly, has terms for {WHITE}
: (chiS), {BLACK} (qij), {RED-orange} (Doq), and {blue-green-yellow} (SuD), where
: caps indicate the principal hue in the range. This makes it a typical Berlin &
: Kay Stage III language (whether IIIa or IIIb is hard to tell, since the
: difference lies in whether >SuD< is principally green or yellow). For other
: colors, one can use >wov< and >qij< as shades (see below), or use descriptive
: words as Erich was trying to do.
I neglected to say that {GRAY} appears only in stage VI systems; i. e. after
_all other_ basic color terms (except sometimes {PINK}, {PURPLE}, and {ORANGE};
stage VI systems may have any or all of these in addition to or in place of
{GRAY}, and there's no rule predicting the order these four terms will appear
in, as there is for the other seven basic terms). Also, read ">Hurgh<" for
">qij<". Gremlins will have their way! ;>
